TRENCH: DECAY classes are seven distinct roles, each with its own skill tree and quest-based points. This page lists every documented class and how its progression works, with no invented stats.
TRENCH: DECAY Classes
The class rework turned TRENCH: DECAY’s roles from a simple playtime ladder into seven distinct specialists, each with its own skill tree and its own way of earning points. Here is every documented class, what levels it, and how the new system works.
Fig. 01 — Seven trades, one trenchFrom playtime ladder to skill trees
Before the rework, each class offered “three simple upgrades going down the line” earned through playtime. The rework replaced that with a full skill tree per class, per creator coverage of the update — and points no longer arrive by waiting. Each class has quests of its own, and completing them is the only way to push that class’s tree forward.
Play the role, level the role
The quest design maps each class to its natural playstyle: Medics level by healing, Marksmen by landing headshots, Defenders by absorbing damage. Creator coverage describes the grind as reasonable — meaningful progress on a single class within a couple of hours — and suggests trees can eventually be completed rather than forcing permanent build choices.
All 7 documented classes
Enlisted
01The standard infantry role. Its class quests revolve around collecting dog tags — the tags fallen soldiers leave behind on the battlefield — tying the class directly into the recovery loop covered in our Extraction guide.
Sapper
02The close-quarters specialist. Sapper skill points are earned through melee kills, so this class rewards getting into the trench and finishing fights up close with melee loadouts from Enlisted Melee Crates.
Quartermaster
03The supply role. Quartermaster progression is driven by collecting items during deployments — the squad member who sweeps the trench for everything useful is the one levelling this class.
Medic
04The support backbone. Medic skill points come from healing and reviving allies, which matters in a game where downed squadmates can be rescued before their dog tags need recovering.
Marksman
05The precision role. Marksman progression is earned through headshot kills, and its ability set centers on spotting — highlighting enemies at the press of a button, with kills extending the highlight duration. Creator coverage calls it a strong pick for solo runs.
Defender
06The frontline anchor. Defender skill points are earned simply by taking damage — the class for players who hold the line and soak pressure while the squad works around them.
Engineer
07The builder. Engineer progression comes from building constructs, and building has real weight in the current version: fortifications can now be placed in offense mode to help complete Major Order objectives.
Class names and quest types verified against creator coverage of the class rework update. The game is in early beta — roles and trees can change between builds. New recruits should read the how to play guide first, and the enemies guide shows what each class is built to fight.
Medals unlock and upgrade classes
Independent coverage of the game’s economy notes that Medals — the core currency — are spent on unlocking and upgrading classes. That makes the free Medals from active promo codes the fastest way to widen your class options early.
Class abilities are rebindable
The same update that reworked classes added configurable keybinds in the preferences menu, including the class ability keys (bound to 7 and 8 by default in creator footage). See our Controls guide for the full documented PC scheme.
What is not documented (yet)
The developer has not published official per-class stats, ability numbers, unlock costs or full skill-tree layouts, and beta balance shifts constantly. We do not publish tier lists or damage tables for this game as no authoritative numbers exist. This page sticks to the verifiable roster and system design, and will be updated as the developer documents more.
Classes FAQ
How many classes are there in TRENCH: DECAY?+
Seven classes are documented in the current build: Enlisted, Sapper, Quartermaster, Medic, Marksman, Defender and Engineer. The game is in early beta, so the roster can change with future updates.
How do I unlock class skills in TRENCH: DECAY?+
Since the class rework, each class has its own skill tree instead of a short line of playtime upgrades. You earn skill points by completing that class’s own quests — for example melee kills for Sapper or headshot kills for Marksman — rather than by simply logging playtime.
What changed in the class rework?+
Per creator coverage of the update, the rework replaced the old three-upgrade playtime progression with per-class skill trees, gave every class its own quest-based way to earn points, and made each class serve a more distinct purpose with unique abilities.
Can I eventually unlock everything in a class skill tree?+
Creator coverage of the rework suggests all nodes in a class tree can eventually be earned, so trees are about progression order rather than permanent either/or builds. As with everything in the beta, this can change.
Which class is best in TRENCH: DECAY?+
We do not publish tier lists — the game is in early beta with no official stats, and balance shifts frequently. Pick the class whose quests match how you already play: aggressive melee players level Sapper naturally, support players level Medic, and so on.
